In case of a poisoning emergency



What to do?


In case of unconsciousness or respiratory and cardiac arrest:

  • Call the emergency services on 144
  • Provide first aid in accordance with current recommendations
  • Do not force vomiting and do not administer any fluids!

Stay calm!


Oral ingestion (patient is conscious)
  • Do not induce vomiting!
  • Rinse/wipe mouth!


Non foaming products

  • Drink 1 – 2dl clear, fatfree fluids as soon as possible.
    eg. water, syrup-bades drink, tea


Foaming products


Administer activated charcoal or antifoam products only if prescribed by a physician or in consultation with Tox Info Suisse.

Eye spatter:
  • Remove contact lenses
  • As soon as possible: rinse the eye for 10-15 minutes with clean, lukewarm running water
    Tilt your head to the side of the affected eye in order to protect the unaffected eye.
  • Keep your eye open with your finger while rinsing. Let the water flow over your eye from a distance of about 10 cm, from the inner corner to the outer corner.
  • In case of difficulties rinsing (children, non-compliancy, understanding problems) get some help
Skin exposure:
  • Remove wet clothes quickly!
  • Rinse the affected skin area extensively with clean, lukewarm running water.
Inhalation exposure:
  • Caution is required in closed rooms, silos and pits: danger to the first responders!
  • Provide fresh air
  • Calm the patient down
